About

Welcome to chrissyyoga.com! I am a 500HR-CRYT, Yoga Therapist, Thai Yoga Massage Therapist, Master Level Reiki Practitioner, and Tarot Reader. Coming from an ECE background, I embrace the Social/Emotional benefit available to all ages through a 5 Kosha, 8 limbed practice. My classes are integrated Hatha Raja flow with an emphasis on breath, alignment, and occupying the present moment. I seek a playfulness, or beginners mind, in my teaching, while still holding reverence for yoga philosophy. I find they blend beautifully!

I started chrissyyoga.com to expand access to yoga to as many people as possible, so we can maximize the joy of living in the present moment. The world wants us all to thrive and I am committed to that goal. Working to be inclusive, my group classes are all donation based. In my Berkeley office and online I offer additional group classes, private instruction, holistic yoga therapy, Thai yoga massage, Reiki & Tarot. I live,  teach & pay shuumi tax on unceded land of the Lisjan Ohlone.

What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga therapy is the professional application of the principles and practices of yoga to promote health and well-being within a therapeutic relationship that includes personalized assessment and practices to engage the client’s energy and awareness  directly into their desired goals. These goals may include eliminating, reducing, or managing symptoms that cause suffering; improving function; helping to prevent the underlying causes of dis-ease; increased self awareness; and moving toward vital health and well- being, all while shifting your relationship to your current situations, conditions, and mindsets.

Yoga, which literally means “to yoke”,  views humans as a multi-dimensional system that includes all aspects of body, breath, mind, intellect, and emotions and their mutual interaction. Imagine what life would look like if you brought your full self to bear on the path to your goals. Yoga therapy helps cultivate a wholistic relationship with the very core of your being to let it guide you forward through a customized program to foster the personal lifestyle you want. Whether you wish to improve your physical health, recover from an injury or trauma, improve mindfulness, reduce stress and anxiety, or transition to a new path, yoga therapy is relevant for all goals. $110. per session. $600 for 6 sessions.

Scope of Practice:

Asana, Pranayama, Strength Training and Mat Pilates, Reiki and Chakras, Chanting and Nadi Yoga, Thai Yoga Massage, Tarot, Eight Limbs, Meditation and Guided Journeys, Yin and Restorative, Chair Yoga, ECE, Pre and Postnatal, Yoga Philosophy and Ayurveda, Mindful Eating, Goal and Standard Setting and Attainment

What is Thai Yoga Massage?

Thai Massage moves you through a series of yoga-like stretches and movements while opening the body’s fascial lines with a combination of soft-tissue manipulation, acupressure, rhythmic compression and stretching. It combines deep muscular and energetic work with fluid movement, affecting the recipient’s entire self.  It improves flexibility, releasing both superficial and deep muscular tension, promoting  relaxation, and quieting the mind. The effect leaves the recipient feeling both relaxed and energized.

Unlike typical Western style massages, you lie fully clothed on a mat on the floor while a practitioner uses stretching, pulling, and rocking. I often incorporate Reiki to aid in relaxation and energetic flow. Sessions are usually 60 to 90minutes, and I may use my hands, elbows, forearms, feet, and knees to loosen fascia, relieve tension, improve your flow of energy, and promote all around well-being. $110. per session for 60min. $140. for 90min.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, holistic wellness tool that works with the flow of Energy. It originated in Japan through Zen Buddhist traditions in the early 20th century. The word Rei translates to Universal, Ki to Energy. There are countless traditions that document and use the flow of Energy through the body, such as Traditional Chinese Medicine (Qi)  and Yoga (Prana). It is a nurturing, inner medicine that invites us to draw from our own awareness and intentions towards balance, healing and vitality. Participants often report reduced stress, better sleep, less fatigue, and help processing and integrating grief and trauma. Reiki (Qi, Prana) is present in all living things making it versatile and accessible for all who chose it. It is the path to holding ourselves and eachother in Love and reverence.

Reiki is typically seen as a technique of laying hands on or near the recipient, however sound vibration, breath and movement can also be used. This pairs beautifully with yoga and Thai massage. All of these modalities address ease, alignment, flow and strength in all domains of being human. This blending can allow us deeper understanding of ourselves and how we can use our light and consciousness to respond holistically and see all things in our path as medicine.

“ When the restlessness of the mind, intellect and self is stilled through the practice of Yoga, the yogi, by the grace of the Spirit within her/himself, finds fulfillment.”
— The Bhagavad Gita Chpt 6

“Just for today, I will let go of anger. Just for today, I will let go of worry. Today, I will count my many blessings. Today, I will do my work honestly. Today, I will be kind to every living creature.”
— Mikao Usui

Chrissy’s yoga practice stands out through her beautiful integration of spirituality with physical movement. Her genuine ability to listen and connect creates a space where everyone feels truly welcomed and valued. Each session offers both an effective workout and a nurturing environment for mental wellbeing. What makes Chrissy exceptional is how she transforms yoga from mere exercise into a supportive community experience that feeds body, mind, and spirit.

Feeling 20 years younger

I went to see Chrissy for a yoga massage to help alleviate severe sciatica pain I’d been experiencing in my right leg   She really worked wonders and was able to loosen up my legs and hips in such a way as to alleviate a lot of the pain. I left feeling like I was 20 years younger.  Her studio is also such a peaceful and soothing place to be. I’ll be back and I’m sending my partner to her as well. Thanks Chrissy!

Gifted Yoga instructor

I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Chrissy initially for private and group yoga session, and later for Thai massage.

Chrissy is a gifted yoga instructor in that she will meet you where you are both mentally and physically. Her words are grounding and relevant. She can bring you into the moment and optimize the work towards greater flexibility, strength, and breath work with the goal of longevity and injury prevention in sport.

Chrissy is a talented Thai masseuse and given the scope of her expertise, she can target the areas that are always the most compromised. Highly recommend for both optimal performance in sport and deep relaxation/recovery.

From the first moment I walk into Chrissy’s space, relaxation begins and sense of peace washes over me. Her healing touch is light and strong. Her moments are specific and thoughtful. She listens to my body as well as what I say about my body and responds to my needs. Her manner is so delightful that I never want to leave. Her warmth and optimism are contagious.I highly recommend you treat yourself to a session or many sessions.

An exceptional teacher

I’ve been working with Chrissy for over a year and I can’t recommend her enough. She takes the time to really understand my individual needs and goals, and each private session feels thoughtfully tailored to where I am that day. Her teaching style strikes the perfect balance of encouraging, supportive, and challenging—helping me grow in my practice while always respecting my body’s limits.

What I appreciate most is how personalized the sessions are; she intuitively adapts poses and sequences so that I feel both comfortable and empowered. Over the past year, I’ve noticed significant improvements not only in my balance but also in my confidence and overall sense of well-being.

Whether you’re brand new to yoga or have been practicing for years, working with Chrissy is a truly rewarding experience. She’s an exceptional teacher and a wonderful person to spend time with. She has become a friend and a confidant and I look forward to our weekly sessions every week.

Private Yoga Sessions

Thanks, Chrissy!

Hey folks, I met Chrissy a year ago. I asked her to help me with recovery from hernia surgery, and we started working together after I had my second set of mesh implants installed last October, 4 in total. I could barely walk, had to be taken to the store, and was able to be up around 30-60 minutes a day.  We started online, and met in the park, and I basically showed up and watched, and got comfortable just being in the space.

Since then I’ve gone from completely sedentary to doing 60-90 minutes of yoga a day and feeling wonderful afterward every day. Yay! Thanks, Chrissy!

It’s also worth noting that since engaging with Chrissy and working with her, I have filed my income taxes for the first time in ten years, have completely quit using alcohol and nicotine for 15 months, and gotten involved in municipal politics.

I also started talking to my estranged daughter again for the first time in 14 years. I absolutely attribute this to me being in a calm state after yoga class last Father’s Day, when I just sent her a little text and she said hi back.

There is no amount of value I can describe for getting to talk to my child again. Yoga therapy is very real. I hope you experience the most valuable healing of your life working with Chrissy, like I have.
